LUXE

Tokyo
Hair Salon

LUXE's sketch

During the bubble years of Japan's overheated economy in the 1980s, people showed off their status by covering themselves in expensive jewellery and clothing from head to toe. But concentrating the sparkle in one place or spending time on one thing might be our favourite form of luxury today. Our hair salon design started with this concept of "luxe". Instead of going all out in every room, we spent the budget on specific elements, and took a minimal approach to everything else. For the graphics, we hot-stamped cheap materials like kraft paper and cardboard in bronze. The resulting design was a mix of cool and hot, just like affogato, the Italian dessert that combines vanilla gelato with espresso. The shop's logo, the three little pigs, suggests that according to this idea of luxury, all three pigs were right.
