We created twenty 1/20 scale versions of Isamu Noguchi's Akari lamp, and reduced each lamp's wattage by 1/20 as well. The lamps were arranged together as our homage to the original Akari at an exhibition called "AKARI The Sculpture of Light." Noguchi's Akari, which uses traditional Japanese handmade paper, went on to influence Japanese design. Our small lamps clustered like Akari's children represent all the new ideas that have appeared as a result of Noguchi's original Akari.The lights also show our hopes for Japanese design today and in the future. We hope that Japanese design will continue to grow, and to develop the DNA we have received from Isamu Noguchi's work and philosophy.
