This book series from French publisher Toluca, a limited edition of 30, presents original prints by a photographer within packaging created by a product designer. We were commissioned to do the packaging design for STRUCTURE PULSION, a book containing eight works by photographer Honma Takashi. Photographs transform their three-dimensional subjects into two dimensions. Our packaging mirrors this transition through a gradation pattern that moves subtly from three to two dimensions. To create the complex form, we used a powder sintering machine. The technology allowed us to manufacture the casing in one piece, including 'buttons' to press to turn to the desired page, 'hinges' to lift open the lid, 'tabs' to keep the lid in place, and 'ribs' to maintain its strength. The result: the high grade finish of an industrially produced object, even in small batch production.
