shoshu-riki

air freshener
2010.04

for S.T Corporation

Japan's S. T. Corporation invited nendo to redesign the packaging for their flagship air freshener and fragrance brand, 'Shoshu-riki'. The brief was to create packaging whose visual image directly conveyed the large volume of liquid contained in each product, as well as the product's ability to effectively deodorize a space by sublimating that liquid into vapor. Our solution was to design canisters that have an hourglass silhouette when viewed from the front, but seem to bulge out when viewed from the side. The bulging form suggests that the canisters are full of liquid, hinting at the large volume of product they contain. Meanwhile, the hourglass shape means that the canisters are wider at the top, suggesting sublimation. Horizontal grooves visually connect the joints between the canister and its cap and the spray hole, and function as ribs to strengthen the canister.

S. T. Corporation has also released the redesigned packaging for its spray-type 'Shoshu-riki' air freshener and deodorizer. The visuals and catch copy for both products are printed on film that stands out clearly in the shop, but can be removed after purchase for a clean look in the home or office.
