trial & error

Palazzo Visconti
Milano
2012.04

This exhibition brings together pieces from the new collection of 1%products and five collections of furniture designs developed over a series of solo exhibitions: thin black lines (Philips de Pury at the Saatchi Gallery, London, September 2010), visible structures (High Museum, Atlanta, 2011), the scatter shelf (Friedman Benda Gallery, New York, and Carpenters' Workshop Gallery, London and Paris), farming-net objects (Carpenters Workshop Gallery, Paris, January 2012) and object dependencies, a specimen edition. At nendo, we carry out structural, materials and visual experimentation on an everyday basis in addition to our client work. The gallery environment allows us to take the results of our experiments into actual objects; the results of this next step invaluably inform subsequent projects. Product evolution can go in a variety of directions: we might apply an idea initially generated for a chair to an interior design, or shrink it to the size of a small object. In 'trial & error', we hope that exhibiting our ongoing experiments - our equivalent of 'basic research' - might give visitors a sense of nendo's immediate future, and provide some delight as well.
